Pittiulaaq • Black Guillemot

Black Guillemots are small seabirds, blackish-brown in summer, with a white wing patches and bright red mouth, legs, and feet. In winter, they are mottled white and dark brown or black. Guillemots can often be heard making a variety of high-pitched whistling sounds. Their nests are usually hidden under boulders or in crevices, in small colonies. Black Guillemots remain as far north as ice conditions allow, and in some areas they are resident around their breeding colony.
