Brook floater

The brook floater or swollen wedgemussel (Alasmidonta varicosa) is a species of freshwater mussel, an aquatic bivalve mollusk in the family Unionidae, the river mussels. The species is found in Canada (New Brunswick and Nova Scotia) and the northeastern United States.

This mussel lives in high relief streams, under boulders and in sand. Research has shown that it is highly sensitive to increased thermal temperature.
